SEDCOR's role is to help steer the town's economic development. It is responsible for the over-all operation of the Smallwood Interpretation and Visitor Information Centre, Joey's Lookout, the Village Green, Walsh House, Loggers Memorial Park, David Smallwood Park, the Smallwood Trail System, and the Mi'kmaq Cemetery. Through its Heritage Committee, SEDCOR aims to preserve the area's natural and cultural environment.

The White Wolf Snowmobile Club (WWSC) was formed in 1997 to provide unparalleled snowmobiling for its members in Labrador West. From 150 registered machines in 1997 to over 1000 today, the WWSC has become the largest organized club of its kind in Atlantic Canada. One of the mandates of the WWSC is to provide a safe and comfortable trail system whereby resident and non-resident snowmobilers can safely travel in excess of 450km of groomed trail
